Ok has an advisory can anyone throw any light on what this is and is this going to be an expensive fix, thanks 👍
Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive near side and off side inner sills/chassis (5.3.6 (a) (i))
I had the below done both sides last time.
Nearside Front Suspension component mounting prescribed area excessively corroded significantly reducing structural strength floor/chassis (5.3.6 (a) (i))
Those descriptions are basically where the suspension actually bolts to the car, front most likely the subframe mounting points.
Cost wise no idea all depends how much metal needs cutting back and welding in plus what needs stripping off for access. I would suspect quite labour intensive going on the description of the corrosion
Just realised you had front done last time, assume you added that just for info rather than it is also an issue this time round?
Its saying you have some rusty bits around the rear end of the sills. You might find it worthwhile at this point to clean it up and rust treat/paint that area to try and slow it down. But be aware if you start attacking it with the wire brush it might make the corroded area much bigger and in need of welding to repair before you get too carried away.
Its hard to say how bad its likely to be without seeeing it, and it is an opinion after all - some places will highlight the slightest bit of rust like that, others will only comment if its getting bad enough that its likely to get to be a problem soon. The sooner you deal with it the better really, as you stop the rust spreading too far like that.
And as Johnny added while I was typing this, the front sounds like the outrigger (common bit to have corrosion problems with) the rear sounds more like the outer bit of the sill, that you'd see from outside the car on the ground.
Thanks for the replies guys, yep there is a bit of rust showing right on the outside bottom end bit of the sill.I'll have a gentle look and try and see how bad it it.It just failed on a cracked rear spring which has been the cheapest MOT fix I've had on this car so far.
Is this quite a dangerous fault or is it the sort of thing where U can just patch it up with filler
Itââ,¬â,,¢s structural so needs proper repair a filler job wonââ,¬â,,¢t cut it.
Noted... sounds like this one is going to need some welding. Personally Iââ,¬â,,¢ve never done any welding but it doesnââ,¬â,,¢t look difficult, although on a motor car I would defo get it done by an experienced welder for safety reasons
Welding does not look too difficult but it takes some practice and skill to get a good strong weld that is also neat. You need to know what power setting etc to use depending on gauge of metal you are welding.
Pity it can't be soldered 😄 cause that's something i was an expert in and something I did numerous times every day before I retired.Welding certainly looks scary.
