Title: "Xenon" headlamp bulbs
Post by: ccberowles on March 05, 2013, 11:20:43 AM
Hi
I was wondering if it will be OK to fit some 100watt headlamp bulbs to my Galaxy MK2 2005. They are the blue xenon filled type, the seller reckons them to be a direct replacement for the standard ones.
Obviously they will be brighter, but what would be the effect on the electrical system and the healamp lenses?
Many thanks
Chris

100w headlight bulbs are for off roading and are illegal for road use.
There are bright white bulbs that are still 55w and claim to give more light, the tinted bulbs tend to give less light and like the bright white bulbs have a short life compared with the standard bulb

Whilst not heard any stories about the Galaxy, the golf/passat electrical controller has been known to fry with 100w lamps. Since the controllers essentially the same, you are running a risk.

100w lamps also chuck out a lot more heat which is a BAAD idea with modern  plastic headlights...
