Title: Severe misting!
Post by: dingdongdo on March 03, 2013, 09:24:46 PM
The last two times I have used the car it is misting up the windows badly, I've tried all different settings of the climate control and nothing seems to work, even opening the window has little effect. I'm guessing it could be a blown matrix but would expect some water in the car and coolant level drop.
Anybody had this?

Its probably the A/C turning off (Won't operate below a certain temperature (IIRC around 4*c)). If you've been using it the day/night before then the evaporator will have moisture around it which will be pumped out as moist/steamy air when its run with the A/C off.

The only "fix" is to turn the A/C off about 5 mins before you get home and turn up the heat to dry out the ducting if you think its going to be cold the next day.

Hot and steamy people can cause the windows to steam up ;D but normally solved by switching on aircon.

Thanks for the advice, not sure the ex wife would agree.
Since posting I have thought about this and may have found the problem. On Friday I replaced the coolant return hose to the expansion bottle as it had split and filled the insulation under the bonnet with water, this was dripping all over the engine bay.
Is it possible that this liquid is now on the pollen filter and causing the problem?

could well be?
you either wait for it to disappear and dry out or change it to see if that works.
