Title: How do i change my wiper blades?
Post by: netdobeiras on March 02, 2020, 03:17:03 PM
I bought wiper blades for my galaxy but could not get them to fit. The wiper arm on the galaxy are wide and are preventing my wiper blades from snapping into place. What wiper blades do I buy? the ford dealership doesnt sell them anymore. I have a 1996 ford galaxy.

I've found the Bosch ones do not fit. At least not the ones labelled SP28 as they are too narrow. The Earlier Galaxy uses an unusual fitting. I used to buy them from a local motor factors (where one of the people there also had a couple of Galaxys so already knew about the problem). The last set I brought came off ebay. Microcat shows the early cars used Ford Part number 1124510, if you look for that on Ebay here then theres a few options, though don't know what you will be offered in Portugal.

You might find some of the upgrade types to work (where it gives you the flat rubber blades when the car came with the traditional type). Suggest you check with whoever you decide to go for that they will fit. Otherwise your only real option is to take a blade off the car and take it into the shop to see if they can find the correct one (from memory its either an 11mm or 12mm wide fitting thats needed, the usual size is 9mm i think)

Thanks for your help. I decided to swap the wiper blades from one side to the other since only the driver side wiper blade was bad.

Well that solves the immediate problem! I think the ones off the shelf that fitted were branded Vistapro. Least that gives you some time to get some sent/delivered.

Otherwise - buy ones of the right lenght and swap the rubber bit across if you feel its a worthwhile try is the only other way to sort it that i can suggest.

Or:

Works really well the first time.  The second time, you need to be quite careful with your cutting technique.  At least doubles the life of a blade.  Mine now start to disintegrate before they become unserviceable.

They should both be the same blades, But as said above, certain ones do not fit as the arms are wider than most normal ones are on the earlier models (some of the early mk2 are like that as well).

Yeah, a lot of them just donââ,¬â,,¢t fit. If that happens, send them back and give a bad review so that other hapless motorists might avoid the same fate. I think they try and save costs by not spending so much time on making them properly.
