Well, after 11 years and 122,000 miles since purchase, I've had to finally say goodbye to my faithful friend, my 130 TDI Galaxy.
Failed its mot quite spectacularly last Friday. Both front outrigger gone, one suspension arm and a brake hose, which might have been do-able, for about Ã,£400 tops, but also a "Dangerous, do not drive" fault, due to a high pressure diesel pump leak sounded the death knell.
Also would have needed 4 tyres within a month, and front to rear chassis rails received a warning.
So after 181,000 miles and nearly 16 years, it's to the scrappy, sad to say. Was still running beautifully on my holiday in Cumbra, quick as ever, as comfy as ever, and still getting 48mpg.
Replaced with a 61 plate Kuga 2 litre 163 diesel Titanium 4x4. Drives beautifully, but nothing like spacious.
Thank you all for your help and advice. It was great fun and so informative. Will still keep visiting, and hope the Kuga owners club can improve to even half your standard!
The end of an era 😢🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👏🙋♂️🙋♂️
What is an outrigger please
Goes from behind sill to the main front to back chassis sections, in my case at the front. Directly behind hacking point, where a garage would usually Jack up or use a 4 point lift. It's quite a well known problem area in old Galaxies.
Jacking, not hacking ( thanks, spellchecker)
Sad to hear, but hopefully it's parts still can find a way to other Galaxy's to extend their lifes. I Also had an outrigger totally gone last year on my mk1 but after a moment with tears in my eyes I found the courage to weld in a new genuine part to fix it :)
I wish you lots of happy miles with your Kuga!
Did you end up scrapping it, or do you still have it awaiting scrap?
Iââ,¬â,,¢d be happy to collect depending on price.
Sorry, it was collected this morning :(
How much did you get for it please and what sort of condition was it in
Ã,£140, didnt shop around for a good price as was unroadworthy due to mot failure. It drove beautifully, still did mpg in the 40's, comfy and fast. However, it was getting very rusty. Besides the chassis rust which caused the mot failure, both front wings, both rear wheel arches and both sills were getting perforated.
Shame, loved that car.
sad day eh,not many left on the road now.shame very comfy car.good luck with your new toy.
