Title: Do I need a cat?
Post by: Brian of Nazareth on July 27, 2019, 08:15:23 PM
Just looking at the exhaust system on my 2003 1.9 90 Galaxy.
I want to build a stainless system, as some of you know from one of my previous threads.
The system that's on it has been botched at sometime in the past.
There appears to be a cat after the flexi, but there are no sensors on it.
Can anyone tell me if the 2003 90bhp 1.9pd on the Galaxy actually had a cat fitted from factory???

Cheers

Yes they had factory fitted cat not sure when they started using them but I seem to recall if it had a cat when leaving factory then it has to have one to pass MOT.

Best to include a cat with your SS exhaust system

I think the cat tends to slow down the car but it will fail the mot if it was built with one and u take it off. Not sure how they check during mot, the last mechanic I used didnââ,¬â,,¢t even spot that the brake pads were low but then I think some of them seem more interested in pointing out that your number plate doesnââ,¬â,,¢t confirm to ISO standard xxxx even though it reads fine than pointing out that your wheels are about to fall off for example

A missing cat is obvious as it is a big can type thing,if it has just been cored out then a tap will also identify its empty.

Brake pads are a difficult one on MOT as they can only go by a visual if itââ,¬â,,¢s difficult to see when wheels are on and brake test passes then thatââ,¬â,,¢s as far as they will go.
