My servo has started hissing under the footwell and inspection shows the seal round the brake pushrod has failed. I'm told the servo will be shot inside so I need to replace it. Strangely the brakes are working OK. There are very few second hand exact models available so I am wondering if a more recent servo would fit. Has anyone got any experience of swapping their servo out?
Further to above I have seen a servo advertised but the part number has the last letter different from mine. Anybody know if that matters? Also can anybody tell me if a servo off a petrol engined Galaxy is different to one from a diesel.
Petrol and Diesel are different. The last digit refers to revisions, normally that's not an issue :)
Thanks Mark. I've got one off flea bay coming next week. Can't afford new, quoted Ã,£850 by the local Ford dealership! It's Ã,£100 plus to get it fitted but knackered joints mean I don't fancy trying.
Even in good health I wouldn't bother for that price, there aren't many jobs I consider to be real buggers on these cars but the Servo is a proper pig to access due to the limited access.
Money well spent IMO :)
Sounds like I do right getting it done for me! Hard to see it, never mind getting it out. Mind you I'm going to miss telling passengers about my pet snake on the floor somewhere!
I've seen where the brake servo is - If they can get it out and refitted for that price, I'd be happy to pay them as it looks like a struggle due to the poor access.
You can see the top face of it by removing the scuttle from under the bonnet, but its not great even so.
Never skimp on your brakes. They are the only thing between you and the road.
