Dear all
Strange klonks from the front suspension that Iââ,¬â,,¢m having a hard time locating.
Symptoms are as following:
The klonk comes when turning hard/rapid enough to each side - like something is moving. It comes with and without the clutch engaged, so seems to be in the suspension. All ball joints are ok with no apparent looseness same goes for the ââ,¬Å"Aââ,¬Â arm of the suspension. The top suspension nuts seems a bit loose but Iââ,¬â,,¢m not sure if the are supposed to be that?
Furthermore there is a ââ,¬Å"knockingââ,¬Â sound that comes only with acceleration in low rpm and goes away when the clutch is activated. Seems to be made worse from the suspension ââ,¬Å"klonkââ,¬Â to one side. It sounds like a cv joint but I have changed the left outer joint due to the same knocking when turning to the right and that made it go away the last month.
It seems to be to separate faults that are affecting each other.
Any Ideas what it can be?
And are the suspension top supposed to be able to move up and down when the car is jacked up?
Kind regards
Martin
Suspension leg top mount does move like that itââ,¬â,,¢s quite normal.
Common cause of knocking is the ARB drop links in my experience, they can knock but have no noticeable play when jacked up.
Also subframe boots work a check make sure all are tight.
Iââ,¬â,,¢d bet itââ,¬â,,¢s the inner CV joint. I had a very similar problem last year. Changing the drive shaft fixed it for me. Note that the drive shaft which needed replacing was the one on the opposite side to the way you turn when the klonk happens.
