HI All heres one for you I have a knock or rattle type metalic noise from fron the F/N/S of my 2003 2.3 galaxy I first thought it was the drop link so into the workshop it went one sunday and I fitted the following
new drop link
new lower wishbone +bushes in the anti roll bar
new lower ball joint
new strut
new coilspring
new top bearing
new rubber mount
all done with new bolts and nuts
also fittede new wheel bearing for good measure
ALL PARTS ARE GENUINE FORD/VAG Not ebay crap
drove out of workshop and Bugger noise still there only happens on road humps and potholes on a smooth road surafce not a peep and drives fine so
question?? any ideas and what have i missed

Back plate corroded and loose
Only thing i can see you haven't touched is the driveshaft itself or the brake caliper - I've known a loose brake caliper to make noises but you should have already ruled that out as you will have had it apart to do the rest of the work. Either that, or the sound isn't coming from something on that side of the car - I've known drop links to make noise even when nothing appears to be wrong with them, and cause sound to appear from one side when the problem is the other, did you replace or rule out the one on the other side? (can see you've done the rest of the ARB bits already).
If its a more loose sounding piece of metal, are you sure it isn't the exhaust or associated heatshields somewhere along that area causing the sound?
Not the brake pad spring or pads or back plate will fit new drop link on other side exhaust ok
not sure about drive shaft seems ok but not sure how to check it other than fit newone??? have shook heat shield and knocked aroud with rubber mallet with wheels on and off the ground nothing obviouse maybe it is fron off side will check at weekend
Best bet is to see if any play is there when you have it disconnected - though its a long shot, I'd expect you to hear it more often than just over bumps. If it was the other side then it could be the middle support bearing being loose, but not on the nearside.
had another look at weekend drive shaft seems fine off side drop links and bushes changed have levered and pryed every joint on off side also bashed around!!!! with rubber mallet nothing moves or rattles until I drive over a bump in road so I give up for now car drives fine so will wait till something falls off
Doesn't sound like you have much other option, maybe its next MOT will give you an idea what it is causing it.
Have you checked subframe mounting bolts?
Yes all checked the more I listen to it the more it sounds like metal to metal type rattle
The inside of the cat if a bit has broken off can create that sort of sound - you won't be able to see anything if thats whats happened, but it might have got somewhere further down in the exhaust where it only makes noise some of the time.
Last time i had that, it was on a Disco, Really didn't want to take the exhaust off for that, managed to "fix" it by running it up the dual carriageway for a few miles in second gear (key thing seemed to be sustained high revs for a few minutes). Its not made a sound since.
Equally if any of the rear boxes have managed to have the outer layer split away from the box that can rattle, though I'd expect you would have already ruled that out.
No signs of any small bits of metal rubbing anywhere?
nothing to do with exhaust already checked that its coming from nearside front only thing I have not done is remove inner wheel arch cover and see if something is obvious
Jack it up 1 inch of the ground obviously make sure its safe to crawl in enough to see while somebody else uses a lever bar under the wheel to rock it while you look. Like they do in an old school mot test centre. See if that helps find it.

Only thing left is drive shaft so will change it new one ordered only Ã,£49 so not to costley to change
New driveshaft fitted and Silence all cured no rattles or knocks at all happy days odd thing is old one looks ok just goes to show looks arnt everything

Sorry I didnââ,¬â,,¢t get to this thread sooner. I had a similar problem last year. Turned out to be the inner CV joint. So changing the driveshaft fixed it. Mechanics at first tried replacing bushes and links but one garage said the clink clink clink noise when cornering hard at high speeds was classic sound of dirt in an inner driveshaft. He took it off, washed it in his machine, filled it with grease again and the noise went away. He said always listen for if the noise is regular and proportionate to road speed, if so then drive shaft is likely to be faulty which seemed to make sense.
