Title: Problems with sharan
Post by: cairns84 on February 23, 2019, 09:50:34 AM
Hi everyone

In just recently bought a second hand vw sharan 1.9 tdi  57 plate.

Free wee things have started coming up and I was wondering if anyone has had these issues that can help.

When driving sometimes the turbo seems like it comes on the stops and repeats but only while trying to hold a speed like around 40 in 5th gear.

Sometimes in lower gears and the car builds speed I can a grinding/stuffing noise coming from what sounds like driver front side, my abs light came on a couple of days ago as well.

I've got the car going in for a major service, timing belt and water pump change on the 12th of march, also hoping to get my rear wiper fixed and the roof seatbelt replaced as the last owner allowed it to get covered in mould.

Thanks in advance for any advice

The strange sensation you are getting could be egr clogged up and sticking and also turbo vnt sticking, worth getting these items checked/cleaned aswell as vac hose condition checked.

Has it been scanned with vcds or alike to see if any fault codes logged?

Grinding noise and abs light sounds linked to me,canââ,¬â,,¢t remember the set up in front of its external reluctor ring or if a sealed unit but it needs that area checking for corrosion/damage etc aswell as bearing condition.

Nothing has been checked yet although when it goes for its service I'll get that done as well.

Was considering a pre mot after everything is done just to make sure there is nothing else.

Is it normal for the rear wheels to have half sized brake discs?

I'll get that checked soon as well thanks.

Does the sharan fit a double din stereo or does it need a face plate?

Not 100% sure as I had a galaxy but it was fitted with the VW media/nav unit which was double din so I would think if yours is not the media/nav unit it will still be of a similar size so a double din with a facia kit should fit?
