Title: Ford Galaxy AWD
Post by: Konstantin Kavruk on December 03, 2018, 06:19:07 PM
Hi guys!
After basically replacing everything on a 2001 Galaxy received as a gift, engine, all suspension, lots of interior stuff and others of which i don't care to think about right now, i moved to an area where i will most likely need awd. as far as i got it, all i need is a donor Sharan, which i can rob of everything starting from the haldex.
First question would be, are the gearboxes the same? cuz on the ETKA webside there appear to be two identically looking trannies.
Are there any other cars suitable? i fopund a very cheap Octavia mk1, would that fit the bill?

Hi! I looked into this a long time ago and yes, theoretically it's highly possible. The mount points are there for all the 4mo stuff but you'll need a new exhaust and fuel tank, ideal if you have the doner.

The gearboxes are different but I'm not sure how, they carry different part numbers and one looks to have an extra wiring connector. Other then that should be a fun project, let me know how you progress!

To be honest, youââ,¬â,,¢re probably better off just spending some money on good tyres. I put Michelin cross climates on my Ford Focus and was happily driving around at normal speeds when so called off roaders like range rovers were gettting stuck on ice. If youââ,¬â,,¢ll be driving over slippery mud and stuff then chains and suchlike might be the way to go. I think 4WD is mainly useful for really fast cars that wheelspin when they take off

Bought a Sharan awd, decided it's too good to part, ended up registering it and using it daily.
bought a second awd sharan, no papers, parted it.
modified the rear arms on the galaxy(sounded like a good ideea a the time) to have the wheels stick out some.

In the end, made a complete bent exhaust, added a hybrid 1752 turbo and a larger intercooler. the difference between the gearboxes is mostly ratios.
