I have over tightened the oil sump plug an damages the thread of the sump. it is leaking now. how can I stop the leak and what is the next size up to the plug that I can order to block the leak
Get yourself one of these kits it is designed for spark plug holes but will work fine for sump plug.
If memory serves correctly m14 x 1.25 is same as VW sump plug,if not get yourself a m14 x 1.25 plug aswell.
When you wind insert in to sump make sure hole is clean and dry and use some thread locker.
Try a wheel nut, worked for me just fine
do you mean the galaxy wheel nut is the next size up? i.e. take off the existing plug and screw the wheel nut instead
I think your more likely to find its the same size, but longer than the original plug.
Unless your happy its not going to come out, I'd go with the tool posted above, you cut a new thread with the tap included then screw the insert into the new hole, giving you the original thread, but in a stronger material than the original aluminum sump so its less likely to tear out in the future.
If you go with the insert just install with high strength stud locker rather than standard loctite,it will not come out unless you stick sump plug back in with a breaker bar.
It was just a short one I had lying around
