Today my car started making a screeching noise from the alternator & over the next 120 miles the battery charging lamp on the dash flashed on & off for a second or two, half a dozen times.
Is the cause likely to be the alternator clutch & if so, is it easy to replace? Is complete failure imminent?
Thanks,
Peter.
Sounds like a failed clutch pulley, they are easy to change if you have the tool. The tool allows you to undo the nut and prevent the shaft turning.
Also check your junction box in front of battery... If melted it could be a poor connection.
Thank you guys, all sorted. I fitted a recon alternator as I needed the car in a hurry for taxying daughter to uni!
Hi Folks, new here but recently did the pulley renewal after a squeaking during low rpm steering
Thought it was the belt, then the tensioner, then after renewing both to no avail
discovered it has a overruning alternator pulley!
I had no idea
Slow learner me eh?
Anyroadup, bought the pulley and tools and she's running sweetly again.
I made a short before and after vid
