Hi all, I just put my sharan through its MOT. It failed on rear axle bushes and front top mounts. I've changed many front top mounts so they aren't an issue. But I've never changed axle bushes. What sort of job is it? I presume the whole axle needs to be removed (mine is a 4motion so that will add extra fun no doubt)? Also during the test, the car overheated. It seems the fans didn't cut in. The car has probably been stood for 2 years (a year in my ownership). It had the right amount of coolant in it too. The fans work when tested with a power probe but don't come on from a signal from the fan switch in the radiator. Another worrying issue is the blowers are blowing cold all the time. Can anyone suggest a reason as to why this might be? Cheers.
Check the water pump as impeller could have come loose on shaft, also check restrictor in small bore hose on coolant return to top of resavoir make sure that is not blocked, run a 2mm drill bit down it.
The water pump can be checked by removing thermostat you can then access the impeller.
As for bushes no idea as never done them but I did rear about using some threaded bar and tube to draw them in and out but that was standard 2 wheel drive.
Those rear bushes would have to be really worn to fail. How bad are they.
