i would check the brake light switch and wiring.

Also as with most leccy faults on these a check of wiring through rubber boots to doors and tailgate are worth checking.

Finally check condition of bulb holders, plugs and earn points at rear by lights for corrosion etc

If I remember correctly bulb failure only works on brake lights and headlights

Cruise control on the Ford petrol models have a vacuum pump behind left side headlamp it's not unusual for the rubber pipe to split there.

Brake and clutch switches also need to be functioning correctly for the cruise to work

but do check that wiring specially tailgate as you may have wiring issues there.

If the wiring doesn't show anything up, then remove the bulb holder units from the clusters, and remove the bulbs and check what the contacts look like - any rust etc will need to be removed, also check the bulbs are the right ones (dual filament bulbs in a single fitting can cause odd things to happen, they shouldn't fit, but that doesn't stop people trying to make them fit either by force or removing the lug that doesn't fit properly).

If any of the bulbs is on, but not as bright as the one the other side, that can be the source of the problem (either bad contact somewhere, or a bad bulb)

Normal behavior is for the light to go on when engine started, then goes off once the brakes are pressed if all bulbs OK.

It is becoming much more common for bulbs (lamps) to be defective from new.

tailgate wires;    also if the brake light comes on it automatically turns off cruise control as it thinks you are braking to slow down.

Its actually not as bad as you'd expect to get in to the cruise control pump, I've got to have another go at mine as I thought replacing the missing hose would be enough to sort it, but it still doesn't work!

This thread might help you sort the cruise control out.
