Title: MK1 parts onto a MK2
Post by: sheepy69 on June 12, 2018, 10:48:07 PM
Well I've currently got a MK1 1.9 galaxy sat on my drive, I'm gonna b stripping it down as it will b scrapped at sum point. Now my biggest question is WHICH parts r interchangeable onto a MK2 (or worth striping n keeping)??
Both r diesels, both r 1.9.

Engine wise I've no idea on the diesels.

Trim wise lots of bits - headlights and the like are different, as is the bonnet. From other cars I've got rid of previously, some body panels are sought for, others not so much. The wings, bonnet and front bumper are all different to the mk2 (the front grille is different between the Alhambra and Galaxy as well.)

If you've got the space, or can do it over a few weeks then the doors will sell eventually if you list them on eBay. Maybe on here too. Or if theres space given its on your drive take them off when your ready for it to go to keep the weather out.

Wiper mechs are different between the two.

If you've got a copy of microcat that can give you some answers, as the part numbers given would confirm if its an exact match or not (using the vin lookup on both vehicles to compare).

Can be worth a look on eBay using completed listings to see if the item your considering will sell for enough to make it worth taking it off as well.

I would say the engine is different, sure mark 1 has the old VE lumps up until the end of production was mark2 onwards that had the PD

It depends how late your mk1 was, the late-1998 onwards models had some revised parts which made their way into the mk2, including much of the electrics, and the wiper assembly.

Many of the suspension parts are common, but even mk1 wheels can be a problem with mk2, if your mk2 has the larger 300mm front discs. Obviously, if it has, the brake setup will be different too.
