Just an update on this. Item received and thanks very much.
The problem I am having is getting worse and is pointing to the automatic gearbox.
Just to re-iterate, the car is a 2010 mk3 2litre deisel automatic. The gearbox is the 5 speed version with the internal clutch packs.
Symptons :-
When accelerating up a hill at higher speeds the amber engine or sometimes gearbox fault appears on the dash and the engine drops into limp mode.
When going up a hill at steady revs the the revs hunt up and down by about 300 rpm as if there is a clutch slipping.
When pulling away it is very jerky no matter how easy you apply the throttle.
When doing a hill start or even moving away at slow speed on a steep hill the gear change is extremely jerky.

I have done some research and it seems to be a common problem with these boxes at mileage above 70000, mine has done 88000.
It would seem that very few companies will overhaul these boxes and those that do will charge the same price as a new box.
I have it booked into my local Ford dealers next week (Days in Neath) for a diagnostic test to see what they find. They are not interested in any symptons, they will only go on what the computer says.
I would like to ask what the group think.

Was you able to plug in and read any fault codes?
My local garage did and most of the faults seemed to relate to the transmission.
