Hello all. Is it normal for there to be movement in the strut top when you jack up the front? The shock goes up into that rubber doughnut thing, and i can see the doughnut has play in it (o/s and n/s). I'm thinking that it would be normal to have play in it, as its jacked up...
Cheers.
Correct, exactly how much play is a debatable matter though. Generally it should still feel quite solid, free but not loose.
Thanks Mirez. (Shame you can't post a vid on here, as i took a vid of it)

You can do a video by posting it to you tube then pasting the link in a post.
There should be about 1/4" to 3/8" gap between the suspension turret and the top mount with weight on the suspension, and a corresponding, but slightly less, free play vertically with the suspension off the ground.
The whole front suspension set up relies on the weight of the car to keep it all together. The top mount, the inverted top hat in the engine bay, is only there to stop the suspension leg parting company with the car when it bottoms out.
this is my next job planned both front ends, my mate thinks he'll get it off lol, I think it's new shocks and top mount [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] I hope he's right
