If anyoneââ,¬â,,¢s had the problems (and I know thereââ,¬â,,¢s been plenty!)
I had my box rebuilt on Saturday for a totally reasonable cost of Ã,£270, replacing the bearings and main shaft, plus shims!
Not a bad price, and he hated the car with a passion!
Iââ,¬â,,¢ve never had the boxes apart or anything, but apparently itââ,¬â,,¢s a pain to get the bearings out, especially the main shaft bearing?
But if anyoneââ,¬â,,¢s have trouble with clutch creep, seems like itââ,¬â,,¢s losing clutch pressure, not selecting gears or itââ,¬â,,¢s not even coming out of first, second or reverse, this may be a viable option!
Shimming the end shaft wasnââ,¬â,,¢t an option as it didnââ,¬â,,¢t cure the problem;
Changed bearings, main shaft & added shims, sorted!
I was dreading the its FUXââ,¬â,,¢ed phonecall, but all good!
Thought Iââ,¬â,,¢d give it a few days run in before writing about it.
Cheers chaps!
Where did you get it done?
A mechanic in Durham;
But if anyone needed any work doing, Iââ,¬â,,¢d be happy to recommend him on if he said it was okay!
Do you need some work doing like Mike?
Not at the moment - I would usually do it myself but that's a pretty good price for such a full overhaul. The retail price of the parts couldn't have been much less!
