Title: Disconnecting the battery long term?
Post by: bouncypete on February 28, 2018, 05:06:35 PM
This might sound like a daft question but would I have any problems if I disconnect my battery for a couple of weeks?

Normally Iââ,¬â,,¢d answer no to my own question but Iââ,¬â,,¢m a little concerned that I might have problems with the remote key or immobiliser if it was disconnected for that length of time.

The reason I ask is that I seem to a small parasitic battery drain. Itââ,¬â,,¢s so small I have never really bothered to trace it as the car will start fine if itââ,¬â,,¢s left for a week, it's only if itââ,¬â,,¢s left for a fortnight. Iââ,¬â,,¢m planning to live with the drain if I can disconnect the battery and manually lock the doors in the airport car park this summer.

Am I likely to create an issue with the immobiliser or remote locking if I do that?

No shouldnââ,¬â,,¢t cause a problem, when I first got my gal I had battery off for a month or so while I was rebuilding head, changing heater matrix and other stuff. Trying to do the jobs around work/kids etc so it did drag on a while. Once back together it fired straight up no problems.

Thanks, that's reassuring to hear from someone who has experienced this before.
