hi this may have been covered before , is it usual for a car that is running in 6th gear approx 3000 rpm @ 65mph , i don`t like taking this vehicle on motorways as these roads seem to fast for my car to cope with, any ideas what the prob could be and occasionally the epc light kicks in , ive recently changed sparks plugs and that improved performance but not top speed , my mondeo was happy doing 65mph @2000 rpm in 5th gear ??
any help would be good
You need to scan the system with a code reader, the epc light can come on for a variety of reasons, basically goes into limp mode to avoid engine damage.
It could be something as simple as a brake light switch or a MAF sensor as a guess.
code reader came up with nothing stored , been fine since spark plug change i think , maybe just needs a full all round service, plus i changed the maf sensor 1 year ago , or maybe i have the incorrect size tyres
EPC errors can also be stored in ABS module, you'll need a scan tool that can see individual VW modules to scan kt though.
You say 6th gear so I am assuming a manual? 3k at 65 does seem high but with a manual, unless its slipping the clutch like crazy (which would be apparent) then it is what it is. Does it sound like its at 3k? Just wondering if the ECU isnt generating the rpm signal correctly for the dash. (or the dash has been changed in the past?)
