Title: Difficulty starting 1.8 smax when cold
Post by: 944 LIL6 on February 05, 2018, 09:44:26 AM
As the temperatures drop, I am noticing its taking longer and longer to start my smax. Im old enough to remember the dagganum dustbin name when Fords would be heard for miles around cranking away, have the times not changed?

Yes we now have direct injection, but you still need a good battery to spin it over fast enough to create the heat in the cylinders to ignite the fuel injected
So with all glow plugs working you should get an instant start.
If you think the battery is turning her over fast enough check the glow plugs for continuity and that they are being supplied with power, this will be longer than the glow plug warning light as the plugs will still be energized after engine start to reduce smoke/emissions.
