Title: Engine/gearbox removal from ancient Alhambra
Post by: tepidair on January 26, 2018, 05:48:56 PM
Did this once before on previous vehicle by dropping unit from under car...very awkward and requires ramp etc
Can anyone provide idiot guide to removing from front of car?

@Mirez is your man for this as he has done them before and says easiest option is get the lot out of the front with radiators etc out the way

Yeah definitely the easiest way is to pop the front off. Most cars are out of AC but if you still have some get it recovered first then its not that hard: Bumper and headlights off, undershield off, drain coolant and disconnect hoses. Undo the PAS 'radiator' pipe and pass it through the hole (you can drain it down if you want but you don't need to). Remove front crash bar then disconnect fan, coolant & ambient temp sensors. Undo the two bolts by the wings and remove the crash assembly as one. You now have loads of access and can get the hoist in nice and close. Takes me about 2 hours to remove an engine now!!

Thanks for advice...had always assumed that the front end was welded on as couldn't see any obvious bolts
I'll have a bash this week weather permitting....I'm getting too old for all this.....
