Hi,
I am new tot he forum. Has anyone experienced a problem with the power steering in cold weather.
I have a 2008 1.8 TDCi with I love. But since end of October, it feels like it looses the power steering and the steering wheel becomes really heavy to turn, when it's really cold. I had it back to the garage and they bled the fluid and change it. it worked for a week or so and then the problem came back intermittently. I have heard horror stories of replacing the rack, but I have also read that it may be the on board computer or the pump.
Any advice?
Any update on this, we too are having similar issues.
Fairly sure there was a TSB issued about this, have you contacted a main dealer as AFAIK there was a software update to resolve this
Not taken any action yet either on the car or contacting the dealer or garage.
I have just had problems with whinning from the power steering pump on my Galaxy MK3 1800 tdci. It required the removal of the flow and return pipes to the pump and steering rack plus removal of the fluid reservoir (that was found to have a blocked filter and debris inside). Flush out all pipes, clean the filter (which is removable). Removal of the offside roadwheel and inner panel. Undersheild off too. So as you see this is no easy task, but I have not got the problem any more, so well worth the effort :)
hi david i am having the same issues as so here in the forum can you say you did the repiar your self and was it easy to do as i am at witts end
thanks paul
@paul31 I doubt you'll get a reply as the last post was nearly 3 years ago. That said nothing he describes sounds difficult if you have reasonable mechanical diy skills, like everything how easy a job is is largely down to your own competence.
You would probably get away with just changing the filter and these are the common cause for noise since they clog and put load on the pump.
