It's that time of year again been trying to resurrect the boost heater today,it worked fine until earlier this year when the iffy combustion fan decided to pack up.
I have changed combustion fan,glow plug and the glow plug screen. Heater tried to fire up produces some smoke and leaks fuel out of the exhaust and then has repeated flame out until it locks out and needs resetting.
Heater is the older more reliable type,I checked glow plug and it defo works,the combustion fan works also. Also the temp sensors and flame detector were also changed as they came. With new fan but fault still same with either loom. Anyone got any ideas why it would continually flame out?
i also had flameout problem, glowplug was ok, bot not heating enough. after changing it with ceramic one, runs like a charm.
Does sound like the plug is not getting hot enough to ignite the fuel, does yours have the ceramic plug (leads attached) or the earlier plug?
The ceramic plug is more reliable than the old one.
The one without the wires on it. I got a brand new beru gh001 same as I had before,I tested on a battery and it instantly fired in to life admittedly was across 12v battery but I assume it is hearing ok on 8v aswell. I will try a ceramic plug see what happens. Cheers
I had this issue with my booster heater lately...the one I have working on my garage bench!!
It was smoking like the divil and wouldn't ignite.
Turned out to be the wire cage around the glow plug. It seemed to be ok when I removed it? I decided to clean it with Mr. Muscle just in case. This definitely removed some gummed/lacquered diesel from the cage. You could see the brown coming off it, particularly the inside.
I had already put Mr. Muscle down the diesel spout and you could see some brown deposits being removed but this just wasn't enough. So I removed the cage and repeatedly cleaned using compressed air to blow it out.
There is a seam on the cage where it is joined. Be sure to keep this seam away from the diesel entry point when refitting.

I didn't even think about the seam on glow plug screen I just whacked it in maybe it is not atomising the fuel correctly because of that,think I will whip it out again and check before getting a ceramic glow plug.
Spot on Niall I had the seam by fuel inlet,swapped it around boost heater now fires perfectly,jut sat on industrial estate where it's quiet while the excessive diesel in chamber and exhaust burns off.... plumes and plumes of smoke!! Lol
Not so much filled the street with smoke I think it filled all of westbury!!! Running sweet as a nut now👍
Just another detail that I noted on pump installation and excessive smoking of the heater...
If the pump isn't installed at the correct angle...approx 35degrees from horizontal...it can inhibit firing. I had the pump more or less flat/horizontal and this would cause the gauze to get too much diesel and get too wet not allowing enough air through the gauze. I think when the burner had run through it's cycle diesel would drip from the line onto the gauze making it wet at the start of the next cycle so not firing.
