hi looking through a how to of replacing water pump/timing belt on ford galaxy tdi 2005 just wondered how long this job should take if not familiar to the vehicle iv done timing belts before but on older vehicles so wasa lot easier but doesn't seem to difficult on reading the post what do people think of this job on this vehicle is it a difficult job and if I had to go to a garage does anyone know what roughly ud pay for it thanks for reading
Personally I didn't find it difficult just a bit fiddly getting one of the mount bolts out that's all, I would expect a garage to charge about 4 hours labour plus parts. I wouldn't expect a great deal of change out of Ã,£400 depending what garage you use.
thanks johnny for the reply think I will have to tackle the job myself anyway if it will cost around that doesn't look too difficult
Just allow yourself plenty of time and you will be fine,if you want to borrow my locking tools let me know and I will post them to you.
thanks johnny for the offer of the tools they look quite cheapto buy on ebay do u have a partno as they seem to be a few different ones, just another quick question when ur feeding the new timing belt around the pulleys etc do you start from the crank and then finish on the camshaft just a bit out of practise s not done any belts for quite some time out of interest how long did it take you from start to finish thanksfor your help dave
From memory all 8v PD use same locking tools, sorry no numbers.
I reckon couple of hours in total to do belt kit and pump.
Bit fiddly belts on these getting back on start at crank and route around water pump to cam so slack goes at back by tensioner. You will prob need to slacken the 3 13mm bolts on cam sprocket to aid fitting.
Hello Johnnyroper just a wee question is there a photo of the positioning of the various locking pins and cam location's for changing the head gasket many thanks
Here you go have a read of this thread it shows pictures of locations.

why will the system not let me thank you for helping out ????
I paid Ã,£280 at an independent garage.
When I worked at an Audi dealer it was Ã,£400 for a pd engine
