Hi all,
Have a 09 2.0 tdci auto galaxy recently purchased, and have noticed on tickover that it's emitting puffs of white smoke and then when given some revs or driven down the road it smokes more out of the exhaust.
It's doesn't do it on start up only when the vehicle has been running for about 15mins+, also seem to be smelling diesel from the car (from the outside standing around the engine bay passenger side) again only once the car has been running for a while.
Have read a number of things related to this one but many things seem to crossover the same symptoms.
Just wondering what direction to take with it?
Thanks in advance.
Could well be linked to the temp gauge problem if sensor is sensing cold engine when it's not,I would get that sorted first and see what happens
So got round to running the car properly today temp needle worked 👍🏾 Fan kicked it 👍🏾 Albeit not very a fast rotation not sure if that is normal..car gets nice and warm inside and pipes are all hot so looks like not much wrong there.
But on Initial start up this morning in turned over a few times before actually starting and when it did it ran really rough like it was misfiring and smoked..but once warm all symptoms disappeared apart from the smoke, which there was just little puffs of smoke on tickover and then when revving the engine it smoked (white smoke) wouldn't say it's drastic like road filling smoke so not sure whether that's jus normal smoke..
I did notice however between cold start up and it getting properly warm could really smell a strong smell of diesel, again which seemed to disappear when car was upto to temp!?
Get it plugged in and see if any faults logged also check operation of temp sensor is defo next step
Cheers for replying, getting it plugged in Thursday so will know more then, is that the same sensor as you mentioned before cylinder head temp?
If your engine has same set up as mine yes, also need them to check other sensor/injector parameters as several things could cause over fuelling.
Is this what yours looks like? It's just I keep seeing other galaxy lumps and look totally different to the one in mine? Wasn't sure if it had a different lump put in at any stage!?
That's different to mine that engine has normal coolant temp sensor rather than the cylinder head temp sensor mine has
So these are the codes I got back:
P224b
U1A04
U0121
U0101
U0001
Any way of finding out what these codes relate to as the obd reader I have is basic?
I also had 'engine malfunction' light appear today in the middle of the dash, although the car seems to be driving perfectly fine!!
P244d is exhaust gas temp sensor related
U1a04 vehicle speed signal
U0121 communication between abs
U0101 communication with transmission
U0001 high speed can communication.
Some odd codes come up there I would check for wiring issues on fuse box plugs, instrument cluster and also battery condition and alternator output.
Try clearing codes see if they return might have had low battery voltage previously
Cheers for getting back to me regarding these issues mate really appreciate it, just a kick one if I was to replace the dpf with a new one is it straight forward or does the car have to be plugged in for anything once fitted?
At a guess I would say it can be swapped straight over unless there is a fault for blocked DPF that won't regen?
Why do you want to change it?
Well I don't think it's regenerating and I've read that the engine malfunction warning normally throws up when there is a problem with the dpf? Although no codes are present regarding any issues.
I also noticed today that strangely when braking suddenly or sharply I instantly get the abs light, handbrake light and stability/traction control light pop up on the dash which then once erased via obd machine doesn't appear again unless braking hardly or suddenly again!? Strange!!
