Title: One for @mirez
Post by: johnnyroper on June 20, 2017, 07:56:02 PM
A friend has got a golf 105bhp BXE engine that has thrown no2 rod through block, apparantly it is a fairly common thing with this engine?
Are there any other PD engines that will be a direct swap if all ancillieries were swapped over? Would be looking at a complete but bare engine so running existing looms, manifolds etc

BKC is the easiest to drop in AFAIK, fairly easy from what Ive read :)

Cheers for that mark gives me another option of engine to look for when it comes to swapping it.

This has got me thinking I know for example 130hp with different engine codes are roughly the same but between different BHP lumps apart from injectors, cams etc what are the differences between the basic lump without ancillieries on?

Our '55 plate Touran is engine code BKC for what it's worth.

If the BXE lumps are prone to throwing rods though you might think that there must be other base engine differences other than cams and injectors? Unless it was caused by a QC issue, the problem must have been down to different components used or slightly modified design?

From what I have read it was different con rod design on the BXE.
I have been reading up and from what I can tell the main differences are injectors, cam, and con rods. I can't determine 100% but it seems basic engine is the same across the 1.9pd range?
