Still trying to sort the tow bar wiring
The rear light cluster has no resistance between any of the 4 pins and either the centre connection or side connection of the bulb holders is this correct
I thought the centre was positive and the fitting was the negative return or am I wrong
I removed the cluster from the car to test as to remove any chance of a wiring issue

Don't know what the pin layout is but the earth should have some resistance measure to the inputs so long as bulbs are ok.
There are 4 pins no resistance between any of them
All lights work fine
But indicators will not work on caravan mine or anyone's when connected to my car
All works fine when caravan connected to other car
Only affects indicators all other lights car or caravan are fine

That's odd as there should be resistance between earth pin and the other pins through bulb filaments.. did you prove meter by touching leads together?

I tested without bulbs as I thought the circuit should only be complete with the bulb in
If anything I was expecting an open circuit or am I wrong

With no bulbs it should be open circuit with bulbs in then resistance should be same as measuring just the bulb

Well yes and no there was a bit of wire in the housing which was why I was getting the short
Cleared that checked the trailer connection still same
Wiring to lighting all showing grounding
Must be on fuse board
Any ideas where to start much appreciated

When trailer is connected wiring to indicators is down to earth,but car and trailer on their own are not down to earth is that right?

But car indicator wiring down to earth permanently but works fine

Could it be relay on way out as it's a shared item
And it works no problem until extra load for trailers

In that case you need to start splitting the system to narrow down where it is down to earth.
Can you separate the wiring from central junction box to rear and front indicators to test with junction box/relay not in circuit? Have you removed relay and tested wiring to earth like that?
Haven't touched relay have checked cabling which runs along one sill under plastic edging and it is all fine
Think it runs to cabin fuse panel but can't find my tis disk to check
Have looked online and can't find any info either
Bought genuine twin plug in kit as for ease of fitting and removal if needed and no splicing needed
Don't know if to rip out and wire in a standard after market kit but don't know if this would work with the everything issue as is anyway

You are defo at the stage where you need to try and split the the circuit,it will run to the fuse box somewhere it's just a case of finding where. Have you had all the panels off to access the fuse board? If you gain access to it you should be able to bell the wire out to identify which one it is.
Connect a section of wire to the indicator wiring at rear cluster then run it to drivers footwell,connect meter to it and start belling wires out until you find it. Best to have battery disconnected if you are dropping the fuse board down.
I wouldn't start ripping the towbar kit out just yet until you can identify what the issue is.
If the wiring checks out then I reckon your fault lies inside the mfu within the fuse box as this is where the flasher lives,turns out it is not like a conventional flasher relay it is soldered to the circuit board so is not replaceable.
