Title: Coolant leak
Post by: Tony5496 on February 22, 2017, 09:49:12 AM
Hi I wonder if somebody could give me some advice I have been topping the expansion Bottle up about 1 L every five days. I have had a ford mechanic  have a look at it he left it running over an hour and said he could not find it.  He said the head gasket is fine . but I'm very confused because one days before he had it my wife called me and said there was water running down the road. when I went there there was about a 12 foot line of water when I looked underneath it looked like it was coming from behind the block drivers side at the back somewhere I thought great the mechanical will  definitely be able to see it now is substantially leaking but took it to him the next day and he could not find it he change the expansion bottle cap and that was it. I just don't understand why it let go of so much water and now every day I CheckIt I cannot see nothing but still losing water somewhere I cannot physically see it dripping now anywhere now very very frustrating. I have attached a photo of the leak but don't understand why it's not doing it now any help would be great.

Give it a good run with some high speed driving and then have a feel of top hose see if any pressure in it.
These engines are very difficult to diagnose head gasket failure as it does not show on block test etc,but given a good run the pressure will build in system so much so if left overnight there can still be some pressure left in system.

Yes thanks for reply it's very strange I've got no high-pressure in top hose at all even after a long run. I am not getting any high pressure at all no overheating even when I Take off the expansion bottle lid when it's hot. I'm not getting no rise of water or high-pressure coming out it must be leaking somewhere  as it left puddle of water and I could see it dripping but now can't see anything very strange I just cannot find it lol

If memory serves correctly there is a water housing on rear of block drivers side? Best to get it on stands with undertray off and see if you can identify traces of coolant...... should leave a white/pink stain.
