Title: What wheels fit
Post by: cosiejoe on December 16, 2016, 06:53:24 PM
Hi everyone,

Just looking to buy some alloys for my MK2 galaxy TDI and was hoping somebody could advise me:
The standard ET is 59 what is the offset I need to get the wheels in-line with the arches without rubbing?

@Mirez will be the man to ask here, as I think he's got 18's fitted on his (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/profile/?area=pictures;u=1#sthash.ihpcuCC0.dpbs). I think it did say what was fitted but unfortunately following a website server glitch that info seems to have gone from his profile.

Also a topic on it here. (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy/wheels)

hi.. i have fitted an audi a8 12 spokes 18inch alloys ..offset of these alloys is 48...tyres 225/40/18... no problems at all apart from bit of hard ride as result of low profile tyrs..my car is sharan mk2.

Mine are 18" Audi RS6 wheels, ET45 IIRC. Most VAG wheels will fit but get genuine not aftermarket, the weight of the Galaxy makes cracks quite likely on the aftermarket stuff.

Cheers!  cheers

I try to mod my cars subtly so it looks like a factory special rather then its been crashed into halfords :)

The ride does suffer a little with 18's though, 16 to 17 wasn't really noticeable but 17's to 18's certainly was! There are some running 19's and even 20's but I can't imagine they are having an enjoyable ride with them lol

Couple more for you:

Ahh very nice, those wheels should also fit as MB run a very similar fitment lol.
Nice plate as well ;)

I'm still toying with mine, I have a fire damaged 4motion sharan I picked up recently and I'm trying to decide if I want to make a Galaxy 4x4 or just get rid and move to the Tiguan / Audi Q5 instead.

Having seen marks motor in the flesh I can say it is a very nice example of subtle mods and is in A1 condition. I would be happy if mine was half as good but with it being a kid wagon for the mrs that ain't never gonna happen.

mark,my thoughts on the tiggy.
small m8,really lovely cars very quick based on the golf, but no match for space compared to the gal.
i do believe the q5 is about the same size as the tiggy, think its got the same floor pan.

have you looked at the smax m8.

many thnx .. alloys are just 17 5x112 ..shares same fitment on  audi,vw,galaxy,alhambra...plat showing my grany date of birth  :D..
4x4 galaxy would be great project but lots of work to be done, as you need to consider safety factors for parts involved ie. coil spring,shocks...
q5.. very nice car, my opinion if i have to chose .. i would love to have galaxy same as yours..  ;)

That's really nice! Why have so many of you got the bigger ones? Is there something wrong with the touran?

It's a question of space and practicality. The Galaxy (and by the same token the Sharan and Alhambra) is a dedicated full time 7 seater whereas the rearmost 2 seats of the Touran (assuming you've got the 7 seat version) can only be described as being suitable for children or short term use by adults as there isn't much leg room! The load carrying capacity of the Galaxy etc will be higher as well.
