Title: Mph power steering pump 1.9
Post by: Laurie Taylor on December 15, 2016, 09:32:29 AM
Is it possible to replace the outer seal on this pump? Does anyone know it's size so I can get one ahead of removing the pump.

[W4] You've not given us many vehicle details to work with but working on it being a Mk1 1.9 diesel (pre-PD type engine I'm assuming), I'm afraid neither VW (http://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/sharan+syncro+4motion/sha/1998-162/1/145-145081/) or Ford (http://eucatparts.com/?action=cat_ford_part&s_id_part=24450&s_id_model=98&s_code_image=Z001580400) list the power steering pump shaft seal (which I'm assuming is the seal that you want) as a separate part. There may be people out there able to dismantle and overhaul the units but looking at the design of the pump with the flange at the end for the pulley to bolt on to, the shaft would have to be removed from the pump anyway in order to replace the seal, this in itself is likely to be a challenge as possibly some special tools may be required, you may even find that the pump wasn't designed to be dismantled in any case, and your best bet is replacement of the complete unit.
