Hi can someone confirm that the oil filter unscrews anti clock wise as i cant shift it even with a oil filter chain... oh and my oil dip stick tub has snaped off .. gurr
Yes looking down on it anticlockwise to undo
You might have more luck with a cup type removal tool on a ratchet than a chain......
Thanks for confirming that..
But i just could not budge it so had to leave the old filter in place
Where would i get a cup type filter remover?
Failing that i guess im going to have to find another filter top and screwdriver this one...
That must have been seriously over tightened previously then? Mine was a touch tight but managed to shift it with some big pipe grips as opposed to filter chain as they gripped it tighter.
I've had a few in the workshop which were so tight they couldnt be undone, the last one we broke two oil filter wrenches getting it undone before it eventually shattered instead of opening :(
They are supposed to be just 25nm of torque as I remember which is basically hand tight, for some reason some people seem to think it needs to be done up tighter then a scotsmans wallet...
The filter caps fitted to the later models (or maybe just the 130/150ps version TDI's) have a 32mm hex head on them so can be unscrewed with a standard socket, the cap has the recommended torque figure of 25nm moulded into it. Not sure what the diameter of the multi-sided filter cap used on the other models is if you were to attempt to buy a cup wrench for it though.
76mm / 12 flutes; I bought one for 35 from local motor factors. also I have been told that euro car parts stock the orange dipstick tubes.

Thanks for the info i was coming on to update i can confirm its 76mm it needs to be a cup type if its not moving i got a three leg self tightening thing from ecp but all it did was slip round the cap so lesson learned get the 76 mm cap if yours is stuck
I picked up the dipstick tube on ebay for a massive Ã,£2.88 all in ... it must be a very common part to fail if they are mass produced to get to that price
Couldn't find it on ecp we site so i cant impart a price or part number...
06D103634E is the part number, if you can get a D then its the original orange/yellow colour and the E is black
