My 2002 MK2 Auto diesel has developed an unusual fault. When starting from cold the engine will sometimes (and it is only sometimes) rev slightly too high to the point whee you have to hold it on the brakes when stopping. It also revs up on initial start up. Any ideas?
Try unplugging the MAF before a start, unfortunately it could be any number of things but my first 3 to rule out would be:
Sensor Faulty
Injector leaking
Oil getting into cylinders.
A faulty temperature sensor can give a higher tick over speed, have you gave it a scan BJ
Thanks guys.
It seems to stop doing it once warm - it also makes the gear changes really lumpy sometimes. I have bought new solenoids but have yet to fit them.
I'll give it a scan and see what turns up. I will also change the temp sensor( I have a brand new one in stock!) as I noticed it too is temperamental and doesn't always seem to react as I would expect.
