both the headlight level motors on my mk2 galaxy are not working cant believe both are faulty !! is there anything common I should check folks
cheers
Same with mine they are a bit of a weak point. There is a guide in ref library that mirez did about repairing them. Mine were beyond repair and had to replace in end.
both of mine went as well changed the defo the motors cos checked the switch with a meter , took both of them out and tried to repair as per the info on here, one started to work for a while but then stopped again after about 2 weeks. so i pulled up to a wall on level ground and manually balanced them to about 4 to 5 bricks up and been the same ever since. only noticed there was a prob with them cos people started to flash me when i put in whiter looking bulbs
just had a read will try that after I check voltage at switch need them working for when I pull caravan looking at pics they are similar to Audi ones of which I have a pair left over from my Audi days so may modifiy them will have to see
They are the same motors as fitted to majority of VAG cars of that era, stands a chance the Audi ones you have will drop straight in.
Funnily enough I have just changed my near side one after I got a replacement off insanitybeard couple of weeks back.
Don't know if its connected or not to the headlight motor prob but noticed today that engine cooling fan is not working if I put 12v on it runs fine but not running when engine hot!
I can't imagine it's connected to cooling fan sounds like you have 2 faults.
What engine is in yours and is the switch in rad for cooling fan? If so try linking out the connevtions in plug if fan cuts in then switch is knackered if not then got to look elsewhere. Also check the fuse make sure that's not blown.
2.3 petrol maybe I have knocked something while looking at head lights given up for now gone to make a cuppa will try again later [CRY]
Should get fan to cut in at idle then unlike the PD. Sounds possible you have caught the switch while down there looking at lamps.
one of them stopped working last week..tried to fix it but no hope...balanced it manually ..so far is ok.
fixed the fan I had broken the wire on the radiator sensor DoH!! as for the motors took lights out test motors both ok when fed 12 v checked 12v at headlight connector nothing checked switch no volts checked fuse 12volts at fuse looks like yet another wiring fault bugger car is plaqued with them
take the headlight out, open them up (motor wise, SPRAY THE HELL OUR OF THAT THING WITH WD40
and that is it!
Thats what I've done with mine :)
That might help but does not explain the fact there is No power to motors!!
At least you have proved the motors by applying direct feed.
Not sure where the switch pics feed up I would assume it's from the same supply as headlight switch? As they are in same area should be fairly straight forward to check it out through the side of dash?
Im not sure where power to switch comes from nether Haynes Manual is no use was going to run feed to switch from ignition to test it out if it works then will leave it in place
Probably easier to run a feed from headlight supply as it's next to it, I would probably leave in place if worked as well as it's still fused etc.
