Hi i found a thread on here yesterday with a walkthrough on how to change the above as its nocking, i had taken my mk2 115 tdi to a garage who pointed out how much play was in the drive shaft and advised to change the full lot. I bought a replacement drive shaft and imput shaft along with the peice that sits in the gear box from a 50000 mile car but im still getting a nocking when putting on and taking of my foot on the accelerator
The engine does not have any access play in movement so i think i can rule out engine mounts. I changed the dog bone mount 2 days ago
Can anybody shed any light on what might be the problem cheers in advance
Hi and [W4]
If your sure you don't have any issues with engine mounts, then suspension components like ball joints, drop links, wishbone bushes, top mounts, could all give unusual noises.
Hopefully it's not coming from DMF or transmission itself, assuming it's manual of course.
Thanx for the welcome, yeah its 6 speed Manuel and unfortunately for me from what you say ive changed wishbones ball joints drop links and track rod ends....
Have a look at the engine mounting on the alternator end - It's a two piece thing and one part seems to wear and you end up with bare metal that makes a noise on the overun and acceleration. Don't go to Ford though as they will only sell you the complete item at approx Ã,£200.00. It may not be this but all you have to do to tcheck is to remove the air filter and try and rock the engine.
As far as im told so far from 2 garages the engine does not have any excessive play im stumped..
Has anybody else had anything like this...?
It won't always show as movement, you need to do a physical inspection of that mount and also the roll restrictor on the bottom of the gearbox to be sure these aren't causing the issue. Certainly the roll restrictor on the gearbox is a frequent cause of issues!
Today i found the cause and after Ã,£350 later, and a new imput shaft, drive shaft and the insert to the gear box ( all be it, there was a lot of excessive play and this needed doing urgently) the bolt on the wishbone had come loose :-[ or not tightened when the part was replaced
