Title: Mk 2 Galaxy central locking problem
Post by: Wyldbore on October 25, 2016, 10:27:23 PM
Hi I'm new to this forum having just bought my first Mk 2 Galaxy 2.3 petrol (52 plate). I gather the central locking is a common fault on these cars. I can only operate the central locking from the passenger door with the key...occasionally you have to lock and unlock a could of times to get the drivers door open. If I attempt to unlock with the key in the drivers door nothing happens. Any suggestions as to what this might be?  The other thing I have noticed is that the interior door handle on the drivers door is loose and wobbles around as if not connected to the door. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks

Does the led on the drivers door work?
If not then no power to drivers side (possible broken door loom wiring, can beguiled by soldering or adding a couple of lichens extension wiring and soldering depends how bad it is)  or worn out motor

Have you removed the outside door handle? There is a paddle looking item that locates into the locking mechanism, which operates the locking manually. These can corrode and break off!

Took me a while to figure out....fixed for a tenner...

Or, is the key not synced to the car? Handbook explains how to do this

Hope it helps...

Thanks for the swift response, very helpful. I haven't attempted to fix it yet as I have only just got the car a couple of days ago. I will take a look at the things you suggest and feedback soon. Thanks again.

I will put money on broken body to door wiring inside the rubber boot. Easiest way to repair is remove loom from door and solder in new sections of wiring extending them slightly.

What he said....

I removed loom and soldered in an extra inch of similar thickness wire, nine months on all good...

Plus it's a lot warmer to solder on the kitchen table, insulate  and then back out to refit...

Really appreciate your advice gents. I will take a look as I notice on the rer boot door the wiring has been strapped up in insulating tape. Can the problem occur with  breal in wire on any of the doors?

You can get all manner of electrical gremlins when they break, best to revisit the tail gate and have a check of all the doors at same time.
