Hi all
The fuel filler flap keep opening when in motion ,when open it is very loose .when closed it seems to flop about ,,
Is it likely to be broken where it hinges? Thanks
On the more modern Fords the actual painted cover part of the filler cap cover just slides/ clips on to the hinged housing part behind, hard to be sure what the problem is without seeing it but I'd guess that the hinge bracket that the cover clips onto is defective in some way, maybe somebody has tried to force it open? If this is the case you'll need to renew the filler cap housing, which is no. 27936 on this (http://eucatparts.com/?action=cat_ford_part&s_id_part=1248828&s_id_model=118&s_code_image=G014961203) parts diagram.
Thanks for that ,tried part num with web site link but didnt show anything with that num? >:(
Unless you want to take a gamble I wouldn't rely on it being 100% correct as quite often there is more than one choice of part to fit a given make and model of vehicle but something like this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Ford-Fuel-Tank-Filler-Door-Housing-1761066-/121977390353) is what you need, assuming the housing is at fault. I strongly recommend that you confirm it is the correct part for your vehicle before buying though, should you wish to buy it!
I'm having this came problem on mY 2010 Gaalxy as well.
When the car is locked you can't open the cap but when unlocked and driving the cap will sometimes open by itself.
I can pull the cap open without pressing it first to 'unlatch' it.
Does anyone have instructions for changing the housing?
I've had a look at mine and can't see how you would remove it to swap for a new one.
I've not fitted one to a Mk3 Galaxy but if you look at the images in the ebay listing I linked above then it looks like there's a set of 4 plastic lugs (2 top, 2 bottom) which I'm guessing snap the assembly into place- quick and convenient when fitting it but potentially a pig to get out, you may be able to access them from the inside of the quarter panel by going in through the rear wheelarch liner.
