Hello all,
Your site is great, there are good themes!
I have the following problem. is already cold and Eberspächer D5WZ does not start and just smoke coming out!
Where to look for the problem?
thanks in advance
VCDS - displayed mistake no flame, exhaust pipe dripping fuel! :'(
Usually knackered glow plug but if it's the later type which I think it is then control unit fails.
Have a look in reference library for glow plug change details you can then whip it out to test operation.
The control unit has been tested bench cycle and everything is ok!
does the heater make any noise when trying to start can you hear combustion fan?
I would drop heater and take glow plug out to test it first and go from there.
If it's the D5W-Z model fitted as stated by the O.P that's the earlier model which isn't prone to control ECU failure unlike the later D5Z-F model.
Downloading the attachment in this (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy-reference-library/galaxy-mk2-auxiliary-booster-heater-guide/) post and having a read should give you an idea of what to check.
My mistake I thought the D3W was the early type. In that case glow plug defo next port of call
I think the D3 was fitted to the Mk1's and you couldn't carry out any VCDS based diagnostics on it.
Yep D3wz was fitted to mk1s with no vcds control
D5WZ on the mk2 to around 2004 after which the troublesome D5ZF was fitted.
