Basically I am trying to load Windows 7 64bit home premium back on to a toshiba satellite l750d after hard drive changed. I am booting from a usb flash drive it goes through the install etc then I get an error message "set up cannot install Windows on this computer as your hardware does not support it"
Laptop came pre installed with win 7 HP 64bit I also managed to get it installed once but messed up the partition so had to start again but ever since not been able to get it loaded on.
I deleted the previous partition prior to trying to install again.
Anyone any idea what I could have cocked up and how I can resolve it please?
Winows creates recovery partitions which hold data as to what version is/was/should be installed. If your are sure it's a 64bit machine then I would suspect the recovery partition is corrupt. Check all partitions are removed and then try again, some BIOSs will let you low level format a drive which would also be ideal!
Ok thanks I will check what you suggested.
I can muddle through with cars and trains but computers I am utterly clueless it's all foreign to me.
You might be best taking the drive out, taking it to a local (not one of the big chains like PC world) computer shop, and asking them to do the low level format. It's easy (with the right software) but takes a while.
Cheers for the suggestions.
All sorted now it was caused by the software used to create bootable usb. Tried with rufus Windows loaded first time with that no problem.
Right next problem it will not install IE10 I go on download page and its comes up thanks for installing but nothing happens.
Also if I go to Windows update it just gets stuck on looking for updates, tried on wifi and plugging Ethernet cable in but still nothing happens.
Anyone got any ideas?
Why do you want IE10? There is at least one newer version and MS has (or is in the process of) discontinued support for IE.
Firefox and a number of others are clearly superior browsers.
Sorry was a typo meant to be IE11.
Seems to be all sorted now after manually downloading some updates for slow Windows update. It's just installing 300 odd updates now.
Not really bothered about the browser as its only for my daughter to school work on without having to use mine all the time.
I'd still go for firefox. Smaller, quicker, easy to download additions that prevent popups and access to specific sites or domains, or unwanted scripts being run. Others allow you to download embedded videos without having to join some spurious club or association. Takes a bit of configuring but very worthwhile.
Saves you having to go through this whole rigmarole again when she accidentally downloads a Trojan or a keylogger.
If you change the OS to UBUNTU, you will be amazed at how much quicker it makes the machine. Comes with Libre Office and Firefox embedded. No antivirus needed, either.
