Also am I right that you can only get a universal wiring kit and not a specific one for the mk2

The towbar frame should be the same between mk1 and mk2, the ball itself is likely to be in a slightly different position due to bumper changes but might be worth trying if cheap enough!

You can get dedicated kits from Ford, VW and SEAT. They pop up on eBay quite often, I have the Ford 13 pin version on mine which cost me Ã,£34 :) My boat and trailer are both 13 pin sockets though, easy to change or adapt though

Just had a reply from a company on eBay that sells the kits but for left hand drive
Saying unsuitable for my car due to length of wires
Surely the middle of the car should be the same for left and right hand drive
If they said due to different connectors due to the difference in driver position I could understand strange

No auto configuring on the MK2, the tech wasnt that sophsticated back then!!

You only need to do one config change and thats on the instrument cluster to tell it to monitor the trailer indicator lamps (and display the required signal). Easy VCDS job, fairly sure details are in the llibrary

Come to fit the kit and the parking sensors use the hole for the wiring kit as it comes with a grommet and also a second gland for the sensor wires
Question is does the grommet stretch enough to go over the connector plug or is there a way to disconnecte the wires to get them through the grommet
