Title: Sill trims
Post by: johnnyroper on August 02, 2016, 11:00:43 AM
Saw a mark 2 sharan with plastic sill trims yesterday, they would match the black trim on lower bumpers.
Was thinking they would be good to fit to cover the damage caused by previous idiots jacking up incorrectly.

Anyone know if they would be a simple fit on to a galaxy?

Easy upgrade as all the mouting posts are already there, just need to drill a few small holes and you are done. Makes a big difference.

Grab the bits from SEAT as they are cheaper then VW:

7M3 853 905 F B41 Widened Sill Panels Satin Black
7M3 853 906 F B41 Widened Sill Panels Satin Black
7M3 853 889 D B41 Widened Sill Panels Satin Black (left outer)
7M3 853 890 D B41 Widened Sill Panels Satin Black (right outer)
N 907 750 01 Hexagon socket head panel 4,8x16 x18
N911 044 01 Washer x6
Sealer, Adhesive Panel NPN x1
WHT 000 188 Hexagon head bolt c/w shoulder x16

Plus some underseal for the holes.

Had to go into the archives for this one, amazing how she has changed over the years! :)

Excellent thank you for the info and part numbers.

What sort of cost is involved for the bits of you can remember?

Circa Ã,£200 iirc, worth it IMO because as well as covering up the sills it also stops them being crushed in future!

I have fitted a set to mine (2nd hand off mirez) a couple of years ago;
1.wash car so the sills are really clean
2. using an aerosol brake cleaner get all traces of grease/crap off
3 I used 2-part mitre bond with an applicator ------its just super glue to hold sill inner parts on car then drilled and pop-riveted them onto the car.
4. the outer sill part then clips onto the frame you had pop-riveted on
5. seem to remember drilling loads of 3mm holes on underside of sill so a row of self tapping torx screws could attach bottom edge of framework to car.

took me a whole sunday, as I was doing it on my back with a Makita cordless and some toolstation cobalt drill bits.  I also cut the original ford mudflaps so that they fitted around the sill trims at the rear of the front wheels.

I will take some pics and do a write up etc once I source the bits and fit them.

looking at the parts needed list   why are there  wide sill panels    and then  wide sill panels  outer left and right ?    are there 4 sills altogether ?

Yes they have 2 each side 1 long one and a short one under the wing.

2 inner panels that attach to the sill of the car;  I pop-riveted these on , they act as a mounting frame for the smooth outer sills to mount onto.

then the 2 black plastic outer sills click in place onto these.

they fit the full length of the sills from rear of front arch to the front of the rear wheel arch.
