Title: I might be coming back again!!
Post by: dilligat on July 10, 2016, 07:36:14 PM
Hello all,

I owned a Mk2 1.9tdi until February when the clutch collapsed and it wasn't worth replacing. I was determined to go to another vehicle and considered a Volvo XC90 (spank me now!!)  but kept pining for a Galaxy

I've now learned about the 2.0 TDCi Zetec Powershift Galaxies that Addison Lee (huge contract cab company in London)  sell off at about 4 years old (2012 plates) with about 100K miles on them and for about Ã,£6.5k to Ã,£7.5k

My son in law drives a van for them and tells me how insistent and fussy they are about servicing their vehicles on  time and fully, sometimes being over the top as it's all tied in to the special warranty deal they have with Ford

So my question is what do you think about buying from them?
What should I  look for and ask? They are very open on what has been done to the car and will give me a full service and repairs print out of every thing changed from day 1.
Is there an after market warranty worth considering out there or should I just put the equivalent monthly payments into a savings account?

Will they make a good tow car? I know they won't have pulled anything before which is a positive and apparently have plug and play electrics already in place.

Thanks and hopefully I will return to the fold or should that be ford?

Jon

I wouldn't have any issues buying one at the right price.

I would however be checking the servicing schedule has been followed along with use of correct oil, also check for record of belt change (if 2.0 has them?) also with that mileage you are in DMF/clutch territory so see if that has been done. It's no different to buying any car really in my opinion just check there is documented proof of servicing and repairs being done.

No DMF on Powershift _but_ gearbox oil changes every 36,000miles and the oil is one of those open your wallet and say "help yourself" items.  The Powershifts seem to be prone to multiple, expensive problems if not meticulously maintained.

Johnny and Mike
Thanks. I'm pleased there's no DMF, that's what died on my last Gal
I will have a good look for the 35000 oil change requirement. What oil is it that should be used as they list everything

Does it have a timing belt or chain and if it's a belt when should that have been changed? another nemesis of mine ::)

Thanks again
Jon

Belt (only one for cams on this engine; two on the 1.8) and 125,000 _maximum_ change interval.  I would do it immediately and preferably ask for a guarantee that they will exchange if it goes as you drive from purchase to the garage.

The gearbox oil is (afaik) only available from Ford (that may have changed recently) and the cheapest I have seen anyone purchase it is ~Ã,£175.  That's just for the oil; you have the filter, gasket and labour on top of that.  The bill generally seems to be about Ã,£250.  The change process is not simple, like engine oil.

Mike
Thanks again

I will have to have a PROPER read of the paperwork

Is there an easy to understand service schedule on line anywhere?

Go here:
http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

Insert reg or vin if not original reg.  You'll get the vehicle summary at build (complete spec in the drop down list on the right) and in the left hand box, under "Ford Service", you can generate a service schedule for either age or mileage.

Thanks again, It won't let me put a trial index in so I will need to get a vin of my prefered car and try again

We did look at the S-Max and I used one at work for a while but we deferred back to the Galaxy
