I know the feeling, My Mk1 Seat was always a worry come mot time she had 235,000 on the clock, last mot she needed so much doing I decided to retire the old girl, which is why I now own a mk2 Galaxy.

I was expecting there to be more wrong, did have a look round at weekend and didn't spot anything obvious but you know what some testers are like?
I knew the flexi was dodgy but didn't have time to replace and wanted to see if any other work was required first.

Garage wanted Ã,£100 to supply and fit but I chose to buy it for Ã,£20 fit it and get back for retest within 2 hours of picking up.

I try to use council run mot test stations (the ones that do Hackney cab mots and dust carts etc)

You end up paying full price, but as they are there to provide a service rather than profit from touting for work.

Ã,£50 = legit MOT and what's actually right and wrong

Verses

Ã,£25 = failure and and a Ã,£100 bill

Not all garages are like it but some operate like it.... Mostly chain outfits like national
