So, driving along the other week and I get a strong smell of smoke. I glanced to my left and pluthering out of the door-pillar trim, where the seat belt comes our, on the Near-side, there's loads of smoke, and I mean propper smoke!
Before I could pull over,it stopped. I got out and checked but nothing inside the car and nothing obvious under it.
Self cured, or so I thought, until a repeat performance yesterday but it went on for longer.
I'm thinking the Aux. heater, as it was coming from roughly that area but has anyone had this before and does anyone know what it it and / or a cure please?
Thanks
I believe he Aux Heater takes it air intake from inside the cabin. I guess if the blower motor in the aux heater isn't running (or the impeller has come off) it could suck air in through the exhaust and exhaust into the cabin.
At a guess I would say aux heater combustion motor gone reverse polarity and is sucking air in through the exhaust and then putting exhaust out through the inlet side.
Mine did this for some strange reason I just wired other way and all is good again
This issue is something that has happened 3 times now, part way in to a trip and it then stops smoking, so I'd doubt if it was a wiring issue, as it works fine the rest of the time - but thanks for your suggestions thus far :-)
Same on mine before aux heater was swapped out
Burner tripped out and smoke blown/sucked,whatever, back out of air inlet which is routed to inner sill. Inner sill connected to b piller , smoke comes out of searbelt openi gs
Mine wasn't wiring issue it was internal fault on combustion fan,no idea why it happened though.
