Hi all new on here and hopefully i can get some help ☺ ive just got a 2001 galaxy ghia 115bhp auy, the car itself in excellent condition only done 127k. I got the car for pennies and dont mind getting my hands dirty so didnt mind it being a spare or repairs thing. The guy i bought it from had replaced alsorts on it from a full exhaust to a turbo ond other parts but its was smoking (white) badly and tapping! When looking at it i noticed there was at least 2 litres too much oil in it so presumed it was just choking on the oil. Ive dropped the oil which was really thin but its still the same?! When being driven it hesitates and splutters a bit on acceleration upto 1500ish rpm but then drives normal in fact it flies, it idles fine aswell so apart from the smoking and tapping any ideas what could be causing it??
Whip the rocker cover off and check camshaft lobes I am willing to bet they are work along with lifters.
Also check the oil for fuel contamination as leaking injector seals can cause fuel in oil giving it a high level like you had.

Sorry should be worn lobes not work!
Was the oil thin or diluted with fuel? It's not uncommon for the tandom pump to leak diesel into the sump.
