I have a 51 plate galaxy 2.3 16valve that won't go into gear 1st and 2nd gear OK but it won't let me select 3rd,4th,5th an reverse and I need the car as I have a disabled member of family who I take to regular hospital appointments anyone get any 1quick solutiond
I would guess at worn socket on the gearbox end of selector cable causing it to pop off the socket.
If that is the case you can simply push back on but it will come off again.
I have heard of people greasing ball slightly and filling socket with epoxy before putting back on,then leaving epoxy to dry overnight, the thinking is as glue dries it fills socket out without sticking it to socket? Failing that new selector cables required at about Ã,£100 but if a garage changes looking at a few hours labour.
The VXT-75 manual gearbox fitted to the 2.3 petrol Galaxy is known to shear a bolt on the selector turret or seize due to corrosion where the selector shaft emerges from the turret , take a read here (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy/mk1-1-9-tdi-stiff-gears/). It's possible this could have something to do with your issues.
gear selector might be seized, use wd40 to fee it,hope this will help.
