Title: Head lamp motors
Post by: johnnyroper on January 12, 2016, 07:29:30 PM
Finally had chance to check headlamp levelling motors today as they don't work.
I followed the excellent guide from mirez and whipped them out, found the varister in both was rather sloppy and the tracks to be scored. I tightened them up anyway and tried again but still nothing. Had a check with meter and found battery voltage in to control switch and then out it varies from 6-9v depending on position. Likewise at motor plug the blue/red gets 6-9v corresponding to output from switch. Is this normal voltage range or am I looking at a dodgy switch also?
Finally am I right in thinking on wiring at motor is black 12v feed when lights on?

If the above is correct looks like I need 2 motors anyone know best place to get some from at a decent price?

6-9V sounds about right from memory, unfortunately I can't answer the other question.

Ebay is probably your best bet, the number is look for is 1J0941295 which is fitted to a number of VAG cars.

I may have a spare leveling motor I'd be willing to sell for not silly money if required, I'd just need to check I've still got it!

Quite a few of my car bits are in storage so I'll take a look early next week and see if I've got it, I'm pretty sure I have as I salvaged it from a headlight that was fitted to my car when I bought it- the main headlamp body mounting lugs were snapped so I binned it after stripping any useful parts. Will let you know.

Sorry 'bout the delay, I've dug it out, picture below. I've no way of testing it as it's not rigged into a headlamp but if you're interested I'm not after silly money for the thing.
