Chaps
My manual MK2 has the ABS light on for days on end then suddenly turns off. Then comes on agaion in a few days. I think it may be a connection issue - i have checked and cleaned the connector under the wheel arch but it keeps on recurring - any suggestions as to where I look next please?
Maybe a break in the wiring/lead, is VCDS pointing to a particular wheel?
Front nearside . I have looked at it and cleaned it and it then works for a while. reluctor ring is OK so maybe the sensor is dying.
That's the one I knackered when I removed front strut, (forgot to unplug the lead) broke two wires where it fits in the multi plug.
Thanks Chris! Unfortunately I haven't removed strut or wheel bearings or brakes!!. The bloody thing is working OK at the moment but I have the MOT tomorrow so no doubt it will go wonky again!
My connector had split in two where it clips into the metal groove that should hold the connector from the brake pad, presumably as the plate rusted and "expanded". When I tried to disconnect the connector to check it came apart and just left the pins sticking out. I managed to superglue it back together and it's held for a couple of years since then. I think it was the connector on the pad so it will get replaced next time they do. I'm pretty sure I didn't glue the two connectors together.....
I had to get my MK2 Manual MOT'd but the ABS light was worrying me. It seemed OK and on the MOT it was working - the car failed on a drop link rubber boot - so I decided to look at the problem again but couldn't work out whether it was fixable or not. Retest comes up and the light stays out - until 90 minutes before the test! I had however looked at new sensors - GSF/Euro were both in the Ã,£45 - Ã,£50 range so I ordered one off E Bay for Ã,£13.00 - it arrived next day - the day of the test. Duly fitted - problem solved. Nice new MOT.
I also sold my MK1 for Ã,£500 so results all round!
