I have a mk2 that has developed an annoying rattle. it appears to be from the front on the drivers side, it only happens when i am slowing down or cornering at slow speed. I can not see anything that is loose and it has only just passed its MOT, any ideas or suggestions would be welcome
Check anti roll bar drop links and bushes first.
cheers, I changed both drop links & bushes & the upright on drivers side to get it though the MOT, the rattle sounds like there is something loose underneath, I just cant find anything. The drive shaft does move a bit but cant seem to get it to rattle when the car is in the air. going to check out the wishbone next remove and refit.
Had you done work prior to the noise developing?
Have you replaced brake pads? if you have lost a caliper spring that will give a similar noise to drop links but will disappear when braking
Its always hard to diagnose noises on a forum but driveshafts rarely rattle so I wouldn't suspect them as a first port of call. Lower ball joint would be a suspect, as would the bushes of the lower arm although all of that should have been picked up on the MoT if its failing... I'd also look inside the wing, there is a pipe there that ducts the intake air from behind the headlight into the airbox. If the airbox isn't replaced correctly its known to be dislodged which would cause a rattling sound
I have finally managed to find where the rattle is coming from, the bolt at the back of the wish bone, keeps coming loose, I have tried to get a replacement bot from ford but they sent me the wrong part, is anyone able to help?????
Hi Jon, both the horizontal and vertical bolts are listed as separate parts but come back to the same part number so there could be some confusion here! The FINIS is 1099114 (Part 11 and 12)
The only other part I can see them getting confused with is part 13 (FINIS 1014575) which is the subframe to chassis bolt, its the same thread but 25mm shorter
